Information for Candidates

Thank you for your interest in receiving an endorsement from the King County Democrats. For the 2019 election cycle, if you are running in a jurisdiction contained within a single legislative district, you must be endorsed by the relevant Democratic Legislative District organization before you can be endorsed by the King County Democrats. Please see below for a list of these jurisdictions, and contact the relevant legislative district endorsements chair about their process.

To receive an endorsement from the King County Democrats, you will also need to fill out one of the following five (5) questionnaires (which is also required by most King County LD organizations), depending on which office you are running for:

  • County Questionnaire [Assessor, Elections Director, and County Council seats] (Word)
  • Port of Seattle Questionnaire (Word)
  • Judicial Questionnaire [Court of Appeals, Superior Court, Municipal Judge] (Word)
  • School District Questionnaire (Word)
  • Municipal Questionnaire [City Councils, Mayors, and all non-school/port special district Commissioners] (Word)

Completed questionnaires should be emailed to [email protected].

Please note that we completed a bylaws revision in February 2019, so our endorsement rules have recently changed. Please contact us with any questions about the endorsements process. You may also wish to review our full endorsement procedures.

You must submit your questionnaire directly to KCDCC to be considered. Questionnaires forwarded from a legislative district, King County Young Democrats, or a Democratic club will not be accepted.

After submitting your questionnaire, you should make an appointment to interview with the Endorsements Committee by contacting the current endorsement chair ([email protected]). Candidates who interview with the committee have a much higher likelihood of being recommended and/or endorsed.

At a minimum, your questionnaire must be received seven days in advance of an endorsements committee or executive board meeting at which you want your candidacy to be considered. This requirement is in our bylaws and cannot be waived or suspended. We recommend you submit your questionnaire sooner than the 7 day deadline in order to provide as many days as possible for consideration — please remember that our endorsements committee and executive board are all volunteers, so the more time you allow us the better.

All candidates who have submitted questionnaires are listed here; this list will update at least every few days (and also on the 7th day before any meeting).

If you are running in a jurisdiction contained within a single legislative district, you must be endorsed by the relevant Democratic Legislative District organization before you can be endorsed by the King County Democrats. This change is in our new bylaws. If you are running for a position in one of these jurisdictions you will want to contact the Chair or Endorsements Chair of that legislative district organization and schedule yourself in the process there:
