July 2026 Newsletter: Building the Next 250

What are we to make of our country at 250? Who are we as a nation?

The last several weeks of hosting the World Cup have given us a tiny glimpse of how the world sees us, the People of America, and of King County in particular. My friends, we are beloved! We are seen as friendly, welcoming, and open. We are reminded that we are an embraced part of the world community. This is a good reason to have confident pride in who we are. Let that be us, embraced by the world.

Now ask yourself, if our government is meant to represent–and to be a representation of–We, the People, then what needs to change? Who represents us? With our primary in full swing, the general election this November, it’s time to think hard about the kinds of people (and their goals) we want speaking for us.

We are at a perilous crossroads. Yesterday’s status quo is dead, and pretty unpopular besides. Whether we like or not the next several elections–and this autumn’s in particular–will forge the next phase of life for our communities. It is our responsibility. That also means there has never been a better, more impactful time to shape our future than now. And be certain we aren’t the only ones who hear that call.

The world sees a wonderful people in us. We need to make our government one to match. With change on the wind, with the future watching, it’s time for us all to loudly declare our values. It’s time to fight, proudly, for what we believe in.

The next order of business toward shaping our future is the Primary Election, whose ballots should be arriving now. King County Democrats, as well as the Democratic legislative districts in the area, have spent much of this year vetting candidates for endorsement. We hope you’ll consider them when casting your ballots, which will be due by August 4th at 8pm.

Lastly, while you were looking over our endorsements, you may have also noticed we’ve launched our redesigned website. This refresh has been a long time coming. We hope it can serve as a focus point to help align organizations throughout the region.
