Apr. 2026 Newsletter II: Your Moment

The time has come. We’ve been talking all year about stepping up to elected office and serving your community. That sounds like a big ask, so we suggest starting small.

We want you to become a Precinct Committee Officer, also known as a PCO.

The responsibilities are light, and the constituencies very small. You’ll need to take part in a few meetings, and you’ll be representing roughly a city block or two. It’s also rare that there is more than one candidate for a precinct, meaning no campaigning. This makes it an excellent way to do your part and make a difference for your community.

Want to know more? Come to our online interest meeting and find out what it means to be a PCO.

Still unsure, or looking for more ways to do your part? Join us for Volunteerpalooza at the King County Library Service Center in Issaquah on April 25th from 11am to 3pm. King County Democrats officers, as well as legislative district officers, will be on hand to talk about opportunities across the county. We hope to see you there!

Whether you’re aiming for PCO or another elected position, remember that candidate applications must be in by the end of filing week, which runs May 4th at 8am through May 8th at 5pm.

Solidarity and community are essential right now, and every action makes a difference. May 1st is International Worker’s Day, and we believe this year we all need to take a stand. Organizations across the country are calling for a day of collective action–no school, no work, no shopping–to demand:

  • ICE Out of our Communities.
  • Tax the rich so our families, not billionaire fortunes, come first.
  • Expand democracy and defend free and fair elections.

Sign your pledge card here, and let’s remind everyone who has the real power in this country.

Finally, on the subject of representation… We’d like you to join us in June for Pride, ideally sporting one of our fantastic lavender shirts. Pride will collide with the World Cup this summer in Seattle. This is a fantastic opportunity to show those from more…let’s call them “repressive countries,” our values and the strength of our communities. Get your shirt here!

Here’s what else is going on:

Always remember: Freedom is a responsibility.
