Mar. 2026 Newsletter: One Outrage After Another

It’s like clockwork: another Republican president, another war in the Middle East. Let’s hear from Donald Trump’s only trusted advisor on how he thinks we got here. We are all less safe because of his asinine decisions.

But, my friends, this is larger than the current Republican administration. It’s also about his enablers. These horrible wars are just one part of a traceable trend of a political party proving time and again that the only thing they can do is tear apart or block the things that actually help, empower, or bring justice to We, the People. This has become a pattern of oppression and cruelty. The Republican Party would rather rule than govern.

With that in mind, the next day of No Kings marches will be taking place across the nation on Saturday, March 28th. Conveniently, that also happens to be the day the Crosslake light rail system opens. We’ll see you there.

So how do we build change? Lasting power comes from the ground up. We start right here at home.

  • This year in Washington, there are FIVE state Supreme Court seats up for grabs. The state Supreme Court is Washington’s final backstop for democracy. We need thoughtful, progressive judges to interpret our state constitution through the lens of today’s world. King County Democrats plans to host a candidate forum to help you learn about those running for these seats.
  • We want you (yes, you!) to run for office. Need an entry point? Consider running for PCO. Constituencies are small–barely a square block or two. You only need to attend a few meetings a month and most of these run uncontested. Want to go bigger? King County Democrats will help you every step of the way.
  • We’d also like you to be trained as an election observer to ensure our democracy’s integrity–win or lose–this November. You’ll be required to attend a training class, with the first taking place in July. We’ll have more info soon.
  • KCD will also be at Pride events across King County this summer. We’d like you to join us, ideally sporting either of our fantastic lavender shirts. Pride will collide with the World Cup this summer in Seattle. This is a fantastic opportunity to show those from more…let’s call them “repressive countries,” our values and the strength of our communities. Get your shirt here!

These are tense times, to say the least. But take heart: Democrats have won or overperformed in 254 out of 285 key elections (89%) since Donald Trump retook office 14 excruciating months ago. Change is taking root, but it is slow, and it needs help to grow.

Ask yourself what you would regret not having done.

Oh! We’d like to issue a correction. Last month we highlighted speaker Will Booth, but associated him with the wrong organization. He spoke on behalf of Creating Pathways, not Hummingbird as we said. Our apologies to Mr. Booth and Creating Pathways for that mistake.

Let’s build something better for ourselves.
