July 2025 Newsletter: Making It Last
Español muy pronto…
You’d be forgiven for feeling a little uneasy this past Independence Day. After all, it is a day to mark our nation’s independence from oppressive (if not royal) rule.
But we must also remember that it’s a day to celebrate our freedom to democratically elect those who govern us. In what can charitably be called uncertain times, it is critical that we remember what our nation’s founders fought for. While we can all be proud of the resistance in the streets, it is resistance at the ballot box that endures for the long haul. We need leaders.
Ballots for the primary election are on their way and are
due by 8pm on Tuesday, August 5.
King County Democrats have worked tirelessly to vet candidates for endorsement over the past several months. These endorsements are at the core of our organization’s work: identifying Democratic candidates we believe are worthy of your vote. Primary elections (and general local ones!) are often won or lost by single- or double-digit margins. Every vote always matters.
You can find the full list of King County Democrats’
endorsed candidates here.
The list represents fights on several fronts, and we’d like to highlight two:
- In Woodinville, significant donations in support of questionable candidates, as well as an attempt at deceptive bluewashing, have put a lot at stake in the area. King County Democrats strongly condemned these actions back in February, but they go on. If you want to make a difference in an election, it will be hard to have a bigger impact than in Woodinville, Kenmore and Kirkland. They need your help!
- Woodinville canvassing will meet at Wilmot Gateway Park. See you there!
- Sign up here to join one of these canvassing events:

- Wednesday, July 23rd @6pm: Woodinville
- Sunday, July 27th @11am: Woodinville
- Wednesday, July 30st @6pm: Kenmore
- Sunday, August 3rd @11am: Kirkland
- Book-banning groups such as Moms for Liberty (and others) are trying to win school board positions across King County. We believe that learning an honest truth about the imperfections of our world and our nation is what forges tomorrow’s leaders and problem-solvers. Our endorsements continue to make an impact, causing some of these questionable candidates to back out. But we still need to seal the deal now and in November.
- Our Protect Puget Sound: A Luncheon to Fight Back event will be on Sunday, September 14th (we promise it won’t move again!). We hope to see you there. Tickets are still available!
That’s not all! There are other campaigns needing help:
- Dionne Foster is running for City Council Position 9, and Erika Evans for City Attorney. Both are facing difficult primaries. Sign up to help them on Sunday, July 27 here.
- Victoria Hunt is running to retain the State Senate seat in LD5. WA Republicans are spending a lot of money–over $160,000 so far–to flip this seat. There will be a GOTV rally on August 2nd at 10am in Tibbetts Valley Park, followed by door knocking so we can keep this seat blue!
We all must take responsibility for our freedom. We do that by electing good leaders and building a wide bench of worthy candidates ready to step into positions of power as they become available. Every year we endorse new people who have chosen to step up for what they believe in.
Maybe next year, we’ll endorse you. Think about it.
Here’s what else is going on:
