Endorsements Committee releases recommendations for June 2015 KCDCC executive board meeting

For the past few weeks, the KCDCC Endorsements Committee has been meeting regularly to speak with candidates and deliberate on races that will be contested at the upcoming August and November elections. Ahead of KCDCC’s June 23rd executive board meeting, the Endorsements Committee is pleased to its recommendations, which will be presented on the 23rd for the executive board’s consideration.

PLEASE NOTE: Recommendations are NOT endorsements. Only the KCDCC executive board (or KCDCC itself) can make endorsements. The Endorsements Committee is an advisory body that assists the executive board by researching races, interviewing candidates, and making recommendations.

JUNE 1ST: KCDCC’s Endorsement Committee today released its first round of recommendations for June (second overall, counting May). They are as follows:

  • Seattle City Council, District #1 – Lisa Herbold
  • Seattle City Council, District #4 – Tony Provine
  • Seattle City Council, District #6 – Mike O’Brien
  • Seattle City Council, Position #8 – John Roderick
  • Seattle City Council, Position #9 – Lorena Gonzalez
  • Lake Forest Park City Council, Position #4 – Phillippa Kassover *

**Per Rule VIII, Section 11, of the KCDCC Endorsement Procedures, as the municipality of Lake Forest Park is completely within the boundary of the 46th Legislative District, the KCDCC Executive Board can only vote to concur with the decision of the 46th Legislative District Democrats as to endorsement of these positions, or decide not to endorse at all.

JUNE 7TH UPDATE: KCDCC’s Endorsement Committee today released its third overall round of recommendations. They are as follows:

  • Burien City Council, Position #6 – Austin Bell
  • Issaquah City Council, Position #4 – Bill Ramos
  • Kent City Council, Position #1 – Bailey Stober
  • Redmond City Council, Position #5 – Angela Birney
  • Sammamish City Council, Position #2 – Mark Cross
  • Sammamish City Council, Position #4 – Hank Klein
  • Sammamish City Council, Position #6 – Tom Vance
  • Tukwila City Council, Mayor – De’Sean Quinn

JUNE 15TH UPDATE: KCDCC’s Endorsement Committee today released its fourth overall round of recommendations. They are as follows:

  • 30th Legislative District, Position #2 – Carol Gregory

*Per Rule IX, Section 2, of the KCDCC’s Endorsement Procedures, Carol Gregory has become eligible to receive our endorsement after having been endorsed by the 30th District Democrats. She is the only Democrat running in this race.

* Per Rule VIII, Section 11, of the KCDCC Endorsement Procedures, as the municipalities of SeaTac and Mercer Island are completely within the boundaries of the 33rd and 41st Legislative Districts, the KCDCC Executive Board can only vote to concur with the decision of those Democratic organizations as to endorsement of these positions, or decide not to endorse at all.

With respect to the Mercer Island city council races, note that the endorsement committee of the 41st Legislative District Democrats has recommended the above candidates for the four Mercer Island races, but the general body of the 41st Legislative District Democrats will not vote on endorsement until Wednesday, June 17th. The KCDCC Endorsements Committee has voted to concur with the decision of the endorsement committee of the 41st Legislative District Democrats if the 41st’s membership endorses any or all of the above four candidates.

In the case of the Mercer Island school board race, neither the endorsement committee or the membership of the 41st Legislative District Democrats has recommended a candidate, but both candidates were interviewed by KCDCC at the request of the endorsement committee of the 41st Legislative District Democrats. The membership of the 41st will not vote on endorsement until Wednesday, June 17th. Unless the 41st’s membership votes to endorse another candidate in the race on June 17th, the recommendation of Bill Hochberg will be presented to the KCDCC Executive Board for consideration on June 23rd.
